Grilled cheese is the ultimate comfort food, it is simple yet satisfying. It’s like a warm hug on a plate! This 3 cheese grilled cheese combines the best 3 meltable and delicious cheeses into one amazing sandwich!

Grilled cheese is the perfect meal for any time of day, it is simple, delicious, and budget friendly. It is the perfect comfort food on any day. Plus, it pairs perfectly with a warm bowl of tomato soup, making it a classic combo that never disappoints. Here is my soup recipe to take your grilled cheese experience to the next level!

This is a meal I make often, because of how easy it is to prepare, and how cost effective it is. It pairs beautifully with any side or soup, and is also very tasty. Grilled cheese is a common request in my house, and everyone always agrees on the same meal when I say I am making this! So, this is the perfect recipe for picky eaters! Unless they don’t like cheese!

Ingredients

Sourdough – A good bread choice is essential in making an amazing grilled cheese and I prefer the bread to be really crispy, which is why I choose sourdough every time

Smoked Gouda – Gouda melts perfectly on a grilled cheese and smoked gouda adds the best flavor that brings out a deeper taste

Sharp Cheddar – The go to cheese for any grilled cheese is cheddar which is why this is a must!

Mozzarella – Mozzarella is a more stretchy, and stronger cheese that adds to the cheese pull while letting the other flavors shine

Butter – One of the most important ingredients in making this sandwich, to help it cook

Italian Seasoning – A sprinkle of Italian seasoning either on the bread, or cheese adds the best extra flavor

Cast iron – optional, and not an ingredient but adds extra flavor from the seasoning on the iron. Additionally, the bread cooks evenly since cast irons are amazing at distributing heat

Recipe

Start by slicing the cheese into rectangles. you may shred your cheese if you would like, I however find that it is messier when flipping them in the pan if the cheese is shredded. As well as storing them for meal prep in the freezer.

I put 3 slices of smoked gouda, 3 slices of sharp cheddar, and 2 slices of mozzarella on each sandwich.

Butter both sides of your sourdough bread while butter is also melting in your pan at medium low heat. Sprinkle some Italian seasoning on the buttered sourdough, then spread the cheese slices evenly onto the bread, then place in your pan.

Try to keep your pan on medium low heat, so the bread doesn’t cook faster than the cheese melts.

When the cheese starts to melt, put the heat on medium so your sourdough can catch up.

Once it is golden brown, with a darker center, or however you prefer to cook it, it is done! And ready for some sea salt! This is perfect served with tomato soup, which I have my homemade tomato soup recipe linked here!

  • I use a cast iron for the benefits it offers such as even cooking, the nutrients it adds, and the flavor it adds!
  • While mozzarella doesn’t have a lot of flavor, it compliments other cheeses well and adds an amazing texture to grilled cheese
